Comments on recent visits...

From Janine Hay at King's College School, Cambridge (May 2022) following a fun session with their sparky reception classes:

'We absolutely loved your visit. The children were definitely inspired going on to create drawings and short sentences/stories based on your characters...'

Here is a reference Janine wrote for me:

'Alison had our Reception class in raptures. Not shying away from high-order vocabulary, she taught the children that picture books are the perfect place for 'big words'. In fact, many of the children commented on this and were inspired to use more impressive description in the stories they wrote in their free time after her visit. Alison's engagement with the children was second to none; there was a palpable mutual respect between both her and the chidlren. She carefully considered each of the children's questions, giving them thoughtful answers and revisiting sections of the text to illustrate her point. Alison is fantastic and what she does and is a true patron of reading.'

From the Year 4 teacher at Heritage School, Cambridge (World Book Day, March 2022)

'I thought you had a lovely warm manner with the children and they instantly felt at ease with you. You could tell you had been a teacher and working with children for many years. Your description of how you created the pictures was interesting and the way you read the stories was lively and engaging...I am hoping to use some excerpts from your books during future creative writing lessons.'

From Head of English, Heritage School, Cambridge (World Book Day, March 2022)

'The Year 3 and 4 classes loved hearing about your books and the class teachers said how lovely you were with the children. The children, my daughter espeically, loved your use of language in Snippy's adventures. It is so hard to get into the children's book market as there are so many books out there but your rhyming adventures of Snippy are really lovely and the language you use is enriching.'

From Great and Little Shelford Primary School (March 2022)

'Thank you so much for visiting our school on Monday...Year 3 and Year 5 were delighted with your visit and really enjoyed it.'
